Blog Post - Time for change
Life is made of chapters and as one finishes another starts. This change is part of life, often unsettling and tiring but ultimately a good thing. Having been a mum for the past 20+ years, my babies are growing and that area of my life is changing. More time for myself and my interests. I have been looking over my works and sketching has definately been a major activity for the past 5 years, supporting my painting works but also becoming an a series of works on their own.
My investigation into landscape got me out sketching again and looking back over the work some months later I realised that actually I was more interested in people than the landscape. That took me on a fabulous journey as I allowed myself to go out and draw anything that caught my interest, just trusting in the process and not worrying where it was going. Over time and the learning that I’ve gained over that time I have honed my interest to looking at meliorism - the belief that through acts of kindness, compassion and creativity we can make the world a better place. I have been out capturing grass roots community projects, those that are often run on a shoe string with little recognition, but that I could see as being so beneficial to individuals and the wider community. Volunteers feature heavily, but also groups working towards improving health and well being. The list is wide and varied.
As spring struggles into summer, (I’m sure we are on our 3rd or even 4th false spring this year!) I am preparing for my annual open studio event and looking at what the next chapters will contain. Change is coming, I feel it.
